While the aftermath of a bushfire can be devastating and heartbreaking, there can also be beauty and resilience in the regrowth and recovery of the landscape. Located in Sherbrooke, 35km East of Melbourne Victoria, is the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens- the original garden of the historic Burnham Beeches estate. Known for its extensive and picturesque water features and this weathered boathouse, every twist and turn through the many intertwining paths of the garden uncovered a haven for the senses and imagination. The cool crisp air under the canopy of the Mountain Ash trees coupled with the aroma of damp earth and the sounds of life from the many birds and creatures in the scrub made this visit a memorable one. This property was once a thriving Shearing Shed back in the 1940s, The Owner A friend of mine, has done his best in preserving the detail of what was once a thriving stockyard. I captured this angle of the Shed and blu out the highlights to give it an old-school look, and to show the detail of the old hand-cut dilapidated wood flooring and fixtures. The rusted machinery still cladding to the ceiling of the corrugated tin roof, and the old wooden pylons that hold this structure together. Nestled in Falls Creek within the Alpine National Park in the Victorian Alps, Wallace Hut is the oldest surviving cattleman's hut, originally built in 1889. The rusting corrugated steel wall panels of this structure tell thousands of stories of stockmen seeking refuge from the harsh conditions seen here in the winter months. Although this shot was taken in Spring, the dew underfoot and clouds of breath in the air in front of me reminded me how grateful I was for the warmth and comfort of a heated room I had to return to. What caught my eye most was the hauntingly beautiful trunks of the surrounding snow gums, the almost pop-art pattern and colour formation of the bark on the twisting limbs creating a palette not ordinarily seen in nature. 6 x 17 Super Roll Film
