Photographing waves underwater is a truly magical experience. The way the light dances through the water, illuminating the intricate details of each wave as it crashes and tumbles are simply breathtaking. As a photographer, capturing these moments can be challenging but the reward is a stunning image that captures the essence of the ocean and its power. Underwater wave photography offers a unique perspective on the natural world and can transport viewers to a peaceful, awe-inspiring world beneath the surface. It allows us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the ocean in a new and intimate way and reminds us of the importance of preserving this delicate ecosystem for generations to come. Underwater vortex waves, and vortex explosions, are circular currents of water that rotate just as the wave is ready to break. I was lucky enough to be in the right spot under a 7-8ft wave to capture this side image of the breaking tide. The force of the vortex pushed down on my body as I was trying to capture this image. Mother Nature shows her true colours at the best of times.
