Sawn Rocks with its towering wall of Pentagonal Basalt Pipes. Located in the Mount Kaputar National Park Narrabri, New South Wales. It features a series of tall, cylindrical columns of rock that have been naturally carved by volcanic activity over millions of years. The Sawn Rocks formation is believed to have been created around 21 million years ago, during the Miocene era, when the area was home to a large volcanic field. The columns were formed when lava flowed from a nearby volcano and cooled, contracting and cracking into hexagonal shapes. The Sawn Rocks is a popular tourist attraction and visitors can take a short walk to the base of the formation to explore and take photos. The site is also of cultural significance to the local Gamilaraay people, who have traditional stories and beliefs associated with the formation. Captured this image on Film, Fuji Velvia 100
