Photographing waves underwater is a truly magical experience. The way the light dances through the water, illuminating the intricate details of each wave as it crashes and tumbles are simply breathtaking. As a photographer, capturing these moments can be challenging but the reward is a stunning image that captures the essence of the ocean and its power. Underwater wave photography offers a unique perspective on the natural world and can transport viewers to a peaceful, awe-inspiring world beneath the surface. It allows us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the ocean in a new and intimate way and reminds us of the importance of preserving this delicate ecosystem for generations to come.

An underwater vortex wave image is a stunning and dynamic representation of the raw power and energy of the ocean. This type of image captures the moment when a wave vortex forms underwater, creating a swirling and churning mass of water that is both beautiful and awe-inspiring. The vortex wave creates a sense of motion and energy in the image, with the water swirling and churning around itself in a beautiful and mesmerizing dance. The colors and patterns in the water create a sense of depth and texture, with the light filtering through the water to create a stunning visual display.

Under wave bubbles are small pockets of air that form beneath the surface of the water as waves crash against them. These bubbles are created when the kinetic energy of the wave is transferred to the water, causing it to become turbulent and form tiny vortices. These vortices trap air pockets and create bubbles that rise to the surface. I captured this image just after a large wave came crashing over the surface at Bronte Beach. The texture, light, and colour  reflected through the surface at the right time.

The movement of the waves can create a stunning array of colors and textures, from the deep blues of the water to the sparkling spray of the breaking waves. It's a truly unique perspective on the power of the ocean, and capturing it in a photograph can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

Looking up through the ocean and seeing the sunlight shimmering through the water is a breathtaking and awe-inspiring experience that every photographer dreams of capturing. The way the sunlight dances and refracts through the water creates a dazzling display of color and light, illuminating the underwater world in a way that is both beautiful and ethereal. As a photographer, capturing this moment requires both skill and patience, as the light and water are constantly changing. But when you manage to get the shot just right, the result is truly magical. It allows us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the ocean in a new and intimate way and reminds us of the importance of preserving this delicate ecosystem for generations to come. Underwater vortex waves, and vortex explosions, are circular currents of water that rotate just as the wave is ready to break. I was lucky enough to be in the right spot under a 7-8ft wave to capture this side image of the breaking tide. The force of the vortex pushed down on my body as I was trying to capture this image. Mother Nature shows her true colours at the best of times.
